Theory 1: Owl or Crane?
|
Many skeptics believe the Mothman sightings were just people seeing either a large Sandhill Crane in an area they usually didn't to or they saw an owl. Sandhill cranes have large bright red markings around their eyes and owls eyes shine bright red when reflecting light so this would explain the "glowing red eyes" most people report Mothman to have.

Theory 2: Omen?

Many believe the Mothman to be an omen of bad luck, missfortune, or as a warning of dangerous or deadly events to come. It is seen as this because of the reported sightings that took place the day before the Silver Bridge collapse.

Theory 3: Hoax or Mania?
|
Some skeptics say that the legend of the Mothman was all a hoax planned by the two couples that first reported it and that the local news coverage caused people to think they were seeing Mothman.

Theory 4: Otherworldly Being?

Some people think Mothman is either a being from another planet or even from another dimension and that is why he comes and goes so easily during the sightings.
